Delhi, is a city and a union territory of India. Environmental problems in Delhi, India, are a threat to the well-being of the city's and area's inhabitants as well as the flora and fauna. Delhi, the sixth-most populated metropolis in the world (second largest if the entire NCR is included), is one of the most heavily polluted cities in India, having for instance one of the country's highest volumes of particulate matter pollution.
In May 2014 the World Health Organisation announced New Delhi as the most polluted city in the world.




2. Patna :

Patna is the capital and largest city of the state of Bihar in India. It had an estimated population of 1.68 million in 2011, making it the 19th largest city in India. With over 2 million people, its urban agglomeration is the 18th largest in India. Patna as the 2nd most polluted city in the India.



3. Gwalior :

Gwalior is a major city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and one of the Counter-magnet cities. Located 319 kilo metres (198 mi) south of Delhi, the capital city of India, Gwalior occupies a strategic location in the Gird region of India. 
According to the pollution control board (CPCB), the particulate matter in Gwalior stands at 329 micro grams per cubic meter, which is over five times the permissible limit of 60 micro grams. Gwalior is the 3rd most polluted city in the India.




4. Raipur :

Raipur is a city in the Raipur district, and is the largest city of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The capital of Chattishgarh, rich in coal, and with many power plants and industries in the region, produces maximum electricity in India. 
Unfortunately, these power plants and industries are also the reason behind the increase in pollution levels making it hazardous for the natives.




5. Ahmedabad :

Ahmedabad is the largest city and former capital of Gujarat, which is a state in India. The Indian Air Quality Index (AQI) launched earlier this year puts Ahmedabad right among the top five most polluted cities, frequently giving it 'Very Poor' & 'Severe' ratings and the 27th most polluted city in the world ranking.




6. Firozabad :

Firozabad, with a large concentration of glass industries, is renowned for the production of glass bangles. Air pollution by Firozabad's industries have been held responsible among other contributors for the corrosion of the famous Taj Mahal's white marble, due to acid rain and polluted air. It now ranks 6th in India.




7. Kanpur : 

Kanpur is the 12th most populous city in India and the second largest city in the state of Uttar Pradesh after Lucknow. Each day, the tanneries pump out about 30 crore litres of polluted water into the adjacent Ganges river. The city's water treatment unit, however, has a capacity of treating 17 crore litres per day.



8. Amritsar :

Amritsar is a city in north-western India which is the administrative headquarters of the Amritsar district - located in the Majha region of the Indian state of Punjab. Increasing Vehicle traffic is probably the prime reason for pollution in this town. It now ranks 7th in India.


9. Agra :

Agra is a city on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India.Home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal, Agra is one of the most sought after tourist destinations. However, increase in pollution due to increased mining and dry sand is affecting the tourism industry in Agra. Agra is the 9th most polluted city in the India.


10. Ludhiana : 

Ludhiana is a city and a municipal corporation in Ludhiana district in the Indian state of Punjab, and is the largest city north of Delhi. A hub of industries in India, the development has taken place without proper administrative checks which has led to the steady increase in the pollution levels.
